As Minister for School Education
Punjab obtained No 1 ranking in Performance Grading Index for 2019-2020; Punjab has emerged as Role Model State for the rest of the country in terms of School Education with pioneering efforts made in launching pre-primary education, digital education, innovative teaching methodology, transparent policy for recruitment and transfer of teachers.
- Implemented online teacher transfer policy
- Direct recruitment of teachers, young principals, headmasters, BPEOs, CHTs and HTs on merit basis
- Recruited solely and transparently on merit basis through PPSC
- Promoted teachers on an unprecedented scale
- Despite the herculean hurdle of COVID-19, we have successfully converted around 15,000 schools into smart schools and we have gone one step ahead and already started converting these into Super Smart schools. We will become the first Government in India to provide a smart classroom in all Government schools.
- Introduction of pre-primary classes in Government Primary Schools which has been feasible due to the revolutionary changes brought in to provide state of the art facilities
- We have seen an astronomical rise in enrolments as more than 5.5 Lakh students have shifted into Govt schools from private schools
- Psychometric tests project conducted in Sangrur. Free psychometric tests were administered to 3500 children studying in Government Schools to empower children to take their futures in their own hands.
- Imparting Smart education through interactive and engaging mediums such as projectors and computers.
- Establishment of Hi-Tech learning with state-of-the-art modern facilities in place in Government Schools with Modern Science Labs along with Computer Labs, Smart Listening labs, Smart Libraries, NSQF Labs, solar panels, smart offices, and smart staff rooms being set up.
- Complete modernization of schools by introducing Smart Reception Counter, Display Board, School Band, CCTV, Camera, Smart playgrounds
- Separate clean bathrooms for boys and girls, incinerator machines for girls
- Water-coolers and ROs set up in schools for cold and clean water
- Providing free books for every child
Other Areas of Work
- Upgraded facilities for cancer diagnosis and treatment available at Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital, Sangrur like Radiation Oncology, Surgical Oncology and Medical Oncology
- Actively involved in issues relating to farmers, drug abuse, women safety, urban poor.
- Organizing medical camps for the under privileged and supporting ‘no alcohol’ resolutions passed by village panchayats in Punjab
- Organized cricket camps for active involvement and bringing the competitive spirit of Youth in Sangrur
- Distributary Canals set up all over the constituency to give impetus to agriculture all over Sangrur
